About me

... as a visual artist.
In my world, personal passion plays a crucial role in creation. Driven by personal interests and values as a central force to creatively realize ideas. One of the most important aspects is personal identity and self-reflection. Expressing thoughts, feelings and experiences as a unique perspective on the world and create an identity that establishes a connection to other people. It is essential to develop one's creative abilities and to continuously develop oneself. This realization includes learning new techniques and refining skills. The joy of the creative process itself is a deeply felt satisfaction and bliss. Experimenting with different materials and techniques and solving creative challenges in discovering new possibilities is fulfilling. The driving force and its cultivation is crucial to achieve an achieve exceptional quality for artworks that are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also have a profound emotional and intellectual resonance.

My name is Ioannis Athanasias-Mayer. In this virtual exhibition space you have the opportunity to view art. You are welcome to look around at any time. Whether for inspiration or for wonder. I often ask myself the question "What is art?" Of course I consider myself an artist and some of my works to be art.

But I always wonder about thoughts and feelings, and the attempt to express them in colors and forms with wood, steel, concrete, glass, plaster, light, paint, canvases and frames. Thoughts like flashes of memories of fleeting moments. My attempt to interpret the anthropic principle to art is the best way for me to describe art. Art offers me all the means and tools to express myself artistically. I have all the means and tools to deal with art. So the result for me is:

"We see art as it is to us because we are here to see it."

The memory of a fleeting moment of perception. When the moment is over, it is the memory. Recalling it again is then the memory of the memory. This is how it repeats itself in our brains until the memory is distorted. This is because the emotionality of the current moment of the memory is different each time. This effect causes memories to "fade" over time. The situation is different with images. However, emotions cannot be captured like light and shadow on a photograph or a sculpture.
Or perhaps....?

People have been dealing with questions about our origins and the possibilities of our future for as long as we have existed. Are we intelligent, clever, creative, good or perhaps evil? In Greek mythology, the goddess Athena was always accompanied by an owl. The owl as a symbol of wisdom. Are we wise?

May the owl be with us.
